The Right to Vote is Limited and Revocable
This is a brilliant lecture by Alexander Belenky on April 25, 2007 over at MIT.
I had always thought that I understood how the electoral college worked and why it was created. I realize now it was a bit of a loose understanding. This lecture just taught me what it really is. If you have ever been curious to know (thoroughly) the how and why of the electoral college, then watch this.
It can be boring, after all its a 1hr+ lecture and and if you are a bit without the nerd factor, you may lose interest. Stay with it, its worth it and hey! if you did not know with some degree of granularity how the electoral college worked and how it came to be, you will after watching the video.
Fans of the subject may consider this an excellent primer on the history as well as the current state of the debate regarding the electoral college.
For me it was a bit of a wake up call. I had no idea our right to vote existed in such a precarious, limited and somehow illusory state.
I agree with Belenky’s proposal very much; popular vote should always be the first choice.
